Activities
Research theme
Marie-Agnès Bringer studies the influence of diet (e.g. nature and proportion of dietary fatty acids, fermentable fiber supplements, intermittent fasting) on retinal health during aging, considering an important link in the food-health chain: the gut microbiota.
Her research focuses on:
1- the dialogue between the gut and the retina, and the involvement of the gut microbiota in the development of age-related retinopathies such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
2- the potential of innovative dietary strategies targeting the dialogue between the gut and the retina to prevent certain alterations of retinal homeostasis (e.g. omega-3 fatty acid deficiency, decline in the functionality of the autophagy mechanism) associated with physiological and/or pathophysiological aging of the retina.
