Our values

The mission of the CSGA is to promote the advancement of scientific knowledge within the framework of our themes, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people at the individual and collective level. To do this, we implement honest and responsible research guided on a daily basis by certain principles and values.

DEONTOLOGY

As a public research institute, the CSGA works with the general interest in mind. Our agents carry out their activities according to the principles of the law relating to ethics and the rights and obligations of civil servants. In particular, they are called upon to demonstrate probity, impartiality, respect, dignity and responsibility and to respect the obligation of neutrality and the principles of secularism and equity. They must also exercise their function with independence and transparency.

ETHICS

Questions related to food and health that are addressed at the CSGA constitute major societal issues. This is why we have a duty to question the values, purposes and potential consequences of our work to guide our research actions.

RIGOR & HONESTY

The honest and rigorous nature of our research activities is guaranteed by a set of rules and values that define scientific integrity. This is essential to maintaining the trust placed by society in research stakeholders. As such, we are committed to respecting the main principles of scientific integrity, which are reliability, respect, honesty and responsibility. They are implemented as a set of good practices that guide us through all stages of the research process, from project design to knowledge dissemination, including data acquisition and analysis of results. The CSGA has a unit dedicated to ethics, professional conduct and scientific integrity in charge of promoting these notions within our collective.

RESPECT & PROTECTION

The use of living organisms for scientific research is necessary for many fundamental, applied or clinical research but it often raises legitimate questions from public opinion. All research on living organisms is strictly governed by legal and regulatory texts, as well as by rules of ethics and good practices issued by the international community, with the primary aim of protecting the organisms on which research is carried out. We are committed to ensuring that any research protocol on living organisms that we implement respects this framework. Furthermore, the CSGA is committed to promoting the development of alternative experimental methods that avoid the use of living organisms when possible, in compliance with the “3Rs” rule: Replace, Reduce, Refine.

SHARING & OPENING

Sharing scientific knowledge and data makes research more efficient, more visible, and less redundant. Open access to data and results can revolutionize the way research is done and enable new uses of existing data, thus accelerating discoveries and innovations. Accessibility, by numerous actors and by several disciplines, facilitates the response to contemporary issues and contributes to scientific integrity. With this in mind, the CSGA strongly encourages its researchers to publish in open access journals, and to develop a culture of data management and sharing, based on the implementation of the FAIR principles (Easy to find, Accessible, Interoperable). and Reusable).

COMMUNICATION & TRANSMISSION

Scientists are encouraged to communicate the results of their research in a form that can be understood by as many people as possible. The CSGA promotes the transfer of information to academic, clinical and socio-economic stakeholders, and public authorities. The CSGA is also an actor engaged in the communication of scientific results through actions to promote science to the general public, from children to adults. In order to communicate our scientific results while respecting the principles set out above, we have created a dedicated communication unit, ANICOM.

EQUALITY & DIVERSITY

At CSGA, we believe that scientific research is enriched by the diversity of perspectives, from the bench to the decision-making processes. This is why the center is committed to gender equality in scientific research and ensures parity is respected in all its bodies and committees. At every level of the exercise of our professional activities, we work to respect the principles of non-discrimination and diversity. Generally speaking, the professional environment promoted by the CSGA is based on diversity and respect for individuals without consideration of nationality, origin, gender, age, disability, etc. Through its supervision, the CSGA allows its agents to benefit from cells and mediators in order to deal with possible situations of harassment and prevent psycho-social risks. The center also has recruitment and support processes for people with disabilities.

ECO-RESPONSABILITY

In order to limit global warming, research has its role to play, by proposing solutions to respond to environmental issues but also by adopting virtuous practices internally. The CSGA is committed to an eco-responsible approach but is also a driving force in the diagnosis and search for new solutions. This is why we have set up a unit called “Low Carbon Lab” in order to initiate various changes. The main actions of this unit concern purchasing, digital, mobility and energy. The unit raises awareness among all people at CSGA to change working methods, while drawing on the experience of the labo1point5 collective (https://labos1point5.org/). Furthermore, through its research themes, the center is a force for proposals for healthier and more sustainable diets.
